Health Care Reform Training gets into full swing!

Florida Blue is hosting one of the first in person training sessions for their Health Care Reform insurance products. Most of the Florida Blue agents have already certified with the Marketplace and have done extensive online training on the Affordable Care Act and Florida Blue products. I think consumers will be happy when they see how affordable the products are. If you would like to see if you are eligible for a Federal Subsidy you can give us a call at 800-946-3303.

What may happen if you try to sign up yourself.....

This is a representation of what usually happens when someone tries to sign up by themselves on the government Healthcare reform website. You will get eaten alive. There are so many ways to go wrong. Input just one piece of data in the wrong spot or not be entirely sure as to what they count as income and what they don't and you can be in for a bunch of grief. There are many plans with multiple networks and different coverage levels that making a poor choice could impact your finances for years to come. Let Berlin & Denys Insurance help and we do all the leg work and the best part is that the cost is exactly the same as if you did it all by yourself. Actually, it is probably lower in cost because you will get the proper subsidy and the right plan. Give us a call today at 800-946-3303 or visit us on the web at http://www.berlindenys.com for immediate help.

Do you remember Healthcare.gov Website launch?

Do you all remember the launch of the healthcare.gov website for purchasing health insurance policies? It was in the news for months as a disaster. Things are finally mostly under control, but it is still a burden for the average person to use. There are so many options and so many ways that you can get the wrong subsidy or buy a plan that doesn't cover what you think it does or doesn't have the doctors or hospitals you rely on. The worst part is that once you buy a plan you are locked in for a year. That means that you can't make a change. Fortunately you have the option of using a licensed agent that has been trained in the marketplace and in the health insurance plans that are offered. One of the best features of using an agent is that you do not pay anything additional for their service. They are compensated by the insurance company. Your premium and subsidy are EXACTLY the same as if you did it yourself, except you are getting professional advice and service. If you do it yourself and run into a problem you can't call an agent in and expect help. You will have to rely on healthcare.gov for service. All of the agents that work with Berlin & Denys Insurance have been through extensive training and are certified by the government before they can advise someone. Give us a call at 800-946-3303 or visit our website at http://www.berlindenys.com. Berlin & Denys Insurance has been Bringing Good People and Good Plans Together for over 30 years.

New IRS Health Insurance Reporting Forms

The IRS released the draft forms for reporting if you have health insurance for the next tax season. You will be required to fill them out and send them in with your taxes. It tells them if you had insurance and figures out if you owe a penalty tax. Take a look at the link to see one of the draft forms. What do you think about this? If you think it is fair or unfair, please leave a comment and tell us why. If you need coverage, please give us a call at 800-946-3303 or visit our website at berlindenys.com

When your life changes, your health plan may need to change, too.

When you have big changes in your life, you have 60 days to get a health plan or make changes to the policy you already have. We can help you get the plan you now need.

What kind of ‘life changes’ qualify?
You may be eligible for the 60-day special enrollment period to get a new plan if:
  • You move to a new area that offers you different plans
  • You get married or have a newly eligible domestic partner and/or dependent
  • You have a baby or adopt a child or have a foster child placed with you
  • You lose your health coverage due to job loss, a decrease in work hours, before you start or end COBRA coverage or other reason
  • You are eligible for COBRA, but have not started the coverage
  • You became a U.S. citizen, national or lawfully present (i.e. Green Card, Visa)
  • Your income changes, or some other event changes your income or household status
  • You lose your coverage because you are no longer covered on a family member’s policy, you get divorced or legally separated from your spouse, or the policy holder has passed away

This list doesn’t include all qualifying life events and you may have a special situation. Talk to us to find out if your specific event qualifies and then we’ll help you enroll in a plan that best meets your needs and budget. Even though the open enrollment period to buy a health plan isn’t until this fall, you may be eligible to take advantage of this special enrollment opportunity right now.

How long do I have to enroll in a plan after a qualifying event? It depends on the event, since some allow you to enroll in a plan 60 days before and some 60 days after the event. Talk to us and we’ll let you know, based on your individual situation.

Can I get help paying for my health plan if I qualify for a special enrollment? Yes, the government may help pay for some or all of your plan. We can help you find out if you’re eligible for a government subsidy.

Talk to us today one-on-one for answers to your specific health insurance questions. We can explain your options and help you through your next steps.

What is Health Care Reform?

This video is a simple explanation of what Health Care Reform is and what it is supposed to do. The open enrollment period is approaching fast and everyone needs to be informed so they understand what they need to do to be compliant with the law. People that are not covered by health insurance for 2015 will face penalties from the IRS. The annual penalty will increase each year.  For 2015, the annual penalty will increase to $325 per adult and $162.50 per child, with a maximum penalty of $975 per family (or roughly two percent of total income depending on family income). In 2016, the annual penalty will be $695 per adult and $347.50 per child, with a max of $2,085 per family, or about two and a half percent of total income depending on family income.

Berlin & Denys Insurance can help you figure out how to get the coverage you are required to have at a cost that you can afford. Give us a call at 800-946-3303 or visit us on Facebook or our company website.

When you are sick or hurt and can't work......

Most people think that having life insurance and health insurance is enough. What some do not realize is that if you can't work you normally do not get paid. How would your family survive financially if you had an injury or sickness that caused you to be unable to work. Most people can't answer that question. Please take a look at the video and contact us at 800-946-3303 if we can help.

Why you should be a quitter!

Originally Posted on http://blog.floridablue.com
It’s okay to be a quitter when you’re quitting a bad habit like smoking. In fact, if you’re a smoker, quitting smoking is the single most important step you can make toward a longer, healthier life. Unlike some healthy lifestyle changes that take time to make a difference (such as eating better or working out), quitting smoking has immediate health benefits.
For example, in:
• 20 minutes your blood pressure and your heart rate to normal levels
• 24 hours the carbon monoxide level in your blood to normal
• 2 weeks your risk of heart attack begins to decrease and your lung function will greatly improve
• The long term your overall risk for heart disease, stroke and cancer decreases
Here are 5 Tips on how to quit smoking:
1.            Set a “quit smoking” date. Mark the date on a calendar and focus your attention on your first step toward a healthier lifestyle.
2.            Identify (and avoid) your smoking triggers. Examples include enjoying your morning cup of coffee or seeing an ashtray. Opt for tea instead and remove smoking reminders.
3.            Have healthy snacks on hand to curb cravings. Stock up on sugar-free gum or hard candy for when you crave a cigarette (especially in the beginning).
4.            Get moving. Physical activity can help ward off nicotine cravings and also help reduce stress.
5.            Look for support. Tell your friends and family you’re quitting so they can support your decision. You can also join a support group in your area (check out Cancer.org or LungUSA.org for groups near you).
Before your quit date, you may want to talk to your doctor about nicotine replacement therapy (gum, lozenges, inhalers and prescription medications), which helps many people successfully quit smoking.
It’s never too late to stop smoking. If you need support or more information, the American Lung Association is a great resource. Call 1-800-LUNGUSA or visit

Top 16 Health Insurance Terms to Know

The Affordable Care Act makes health care available to more people. For many, this will be the first time they’ll use a health insurance plan. Health insurance, like many other things in life, has terms to describe certain things. In this post, we’re going to look at a few of the most commonly used health insurance terms to know.
1. Affordable Care Act- the ACA is the federal law that was passed by Congress and signed into law in March 2010.
2. Health Insurance – helps pay part of the cost when you’re sick or hurt.  Health insurance is a contract between you and your insurance company.  You buy a health plan from the company.  They agree to pay some of your medical costs when you are sick.
3. Premium – this is the amount that you pay for your plan. For some qualified people, the government may provide a subsidy to help pay this amount.
4. Covered Services – this describes what is covered, or able to be paid for, by your health plan. It’s important to know what is covered to help save money.
5. Benefit - this is the amount that your insurance company will pay for covered services.
6. Exclusion – these are items that are not covered under the plan. The cost for these services is usually full price and you will pay for out-of-pocket.
7. Provider – this is used to describe any provider of service – including doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies.
8. Network – the facilities, providers and suppliers that contract with your insurance company to provide medical services. Using these providers, also known as “staying in-network,” is one way to save money.
9. Non-participating – this describes a doctor or provider that doesn’t have a contract with your insurance company. Services for these providers typically cost more because they are not in-network.
10. Claim – this is a request for payment from your provider to your insurance company to be paid for medical services.
11. Allowed Amount – this is the maximum amount that your insurance company pays for medical services. The deductible, copay and coinsurance are based on this amount.
12. Coinsurance – this is your share of the costs of a covered health care service, calculated as a percent. This usually comes into play after meeting your deductible.
13. Copay – this is a set dollar amount, or fee; you pay for a covered health care service, usually when you receive the service.
14. Deductible – this is a fixed dollar amount that you pay before your insurance company starts to pay for covered services. This amount is set up front and is typically good for a period of one year.
15. Out-of-Pocket Maximum - this is the maximum amount that you or your family pays for a set period, usually a year, before the insurance company picks up your copays, coinsurance and other out of pocket expenses. It’s important to note that the maximums are typically different for in- and out-of-network providers and these two amounts are usually not combined.
16. HSA (health savings account) – this is a savings account that you can put money into to help pay for medical expenses. You are not taxed on the money you add. You have to have a qualifying plan to have an HSA and this is regulated by the government.
This just covers a few of the most commonly used health insurance terms and definitions that you’ll come across in using your insurance plan. I enjoy hearing from each of you so please take a minute to drop me a line and let me know about some terms you have come across.

Instant Life Insurance Quote

Why Don't You Have Enough Life Insurance?

Many people with families have small life insurance policies or don't have any life insurance coverage at all. Is it the cost? I really don't think so, a middle age male in decent health can buy a $500,000 term policy for the cost of a low priced dinner out with his family.

Is it because the adults in the family don't love the spouse or the children? I hope that the answer is a no.

Is it because they have the disease that affects so many Americans? What disease is that you are probably wondering? It is procrastination. It is the I'll do it tomorrow or the I had a tough day sickness.

I know that you all do love your families and I know most of you can easily afford to go out to dinner once a month. Just like me, you probably eat out at least a few times a month.

I see people when it is too late very often. When the spouse is selling the house and canceling the health insurance because there is no money. The husband or wife died and they had no coverage or a tiny amount of coverage. Take a look at this video I found on YouTube. If it hits a chord you should give us a call at 800-946-3303 and let one of our trained agents help you figure out how much protection you need and how you can easily afford it. Berlin & Denys Insurance and Financial Services has been serving Florida residents for 30 years.

Health Reform Explained Video: "Health Reform Hits Main Street"

I found this video on YouTube, it explains what is going on with Health Care Reform and is kinda funny too. It keeps you from falling all the way asleep. We can help you navigate the whole Health Care Reform law. We know as much as is possible at this point. New rules and regulations are being released daily. You will need an agent to help you figure it all out. With something this complicated you really want to avoid actually buying a product over the internet. When you purchase without a person you get service without a person. Imagine if something were not to go right during the implementation of this massively complex program, not saying that a huge government mandated program could possibly have any glitches but lets just say it did, would you like an 800 number that links to Peggy in Pakistan or your agents' personal cell phone number. I know which one I would want, and the cost to you is the same. No additional cost for a personal agent.

Berlin & Denys Insurance and Financial Services has been serving Florida for 30 years. Give us a call at 800-946-3303 and we will help you figure it all out.
